In February, a stretcher was donated by Clark Landers. The 2nd
Annual Turkey Raffle was held November 21st at the Legion
Hall.
33 fire calls were recorded for the year, including a car hit by train,
RR flat car fire, and a drowning.
The annual Firemen’s Dance was held in February. In June, a fire siren
was installed at the Chief Cocktail Lounge where it would set off the
alarm on a fire call. No riding on the back of the Jeep was mandated
for safety reasons. In November, the 3rd Annual Turkey
Raffle was held.
25 fire calls were recorded for the year, including a stove fire at the
train station and 11 inhalator calls.
The annual Dance was held in February. The Department bought two Chemox
Breathing Apparatus’. In May a new Chief, Thomas Hucek, was appointed
and took control of the department. It was decided that all men would
report to the scene of a fire call and then the Chief would send some
men back to the fire house. The Model T was put into storage in August.
In November, the 4th Annual Turkey Raffle was held.
17 fire calls were recorded for the year, including a drowning, 3 calls
to help Cary Fire and a fire call to assist Crystal Lake for a fire at
Martinetti’s.
January – An inhalator demo by Querhammer was given.
February – The Annual Dance was held.
November – The 5th Annual Turkey Raffle held.
December – A demonstration on an electronic resuscitator was given to
the department.
26 fire calls were recorded for the year.
In January, the department received a demonstration on the Mine Safety
Inhalator, which was purchased. The Annual Dance was held in February.
A new Chief, Bernard Varharnik was appointed in May. In September, a
film on Fire Prevention Week was brought to the meeting. This film was
shown in the local theater. On November 22nd, the 6th
annual Turkey
Raffle was held, and the Annual Firemen’s Bowling tournament held on
Fox River Grove in December.
25 fire calls were recorded for the year, one being a fire at the
Village Hall.
The Fire Department asked the village to enforce the No Parking Law in
front of the fire hydrants in town. The February Annual Dance was once
again held. It was decided that any water hauled to the Ski Hill for
home use was to be sold to the home owner for $7.00 a load. The
department began checking to see if it would be worth while to form a
fire district. In March, plans began to form a fire district. The 7th
annual Turkey Raffle was held in November. The department had a large
map of the village made, and purchased Red Cross First Aid Books.
29 fire calls were recorded for the year, including a boy stuck in a
tree, the Cernocky Building Crystal Ball Room fire on the corner of
Route 14 and Lincoln. Also a train fire was extinguished.
Red Cross First-Aid Classes started in January, and the Annual Dance
was held in February. There was a talk given on home receivers for Cuba
Electronic. In April, the McHenry County Retail Liquor Dealers
Association donated money towards the department’s new radio system.
“We will have our own radio by Feb. 1, 1960.” In May, all members were
to participate in the Memorial Day Parade. Dr. McKenna and Dr. Finegan
showed films and demonstrated new techniques for mouth to mouth
respiration in June. A bag type respirator was approved for purchase.
In November the department had a demonstration on the Plectron (home
alerting system). A proposal for the system and 15 receiver units was
made. In November, the 8th annual Turkey Raffle was held.
24 fire calls were recorded for the year, including a boat fire,
drowning, and mattress fire.
February saw the department’s annual dance held again. More discussion
on forming a Fire Protection District was held in March. Mr. Wondriska
offered to allow the fire department to use his boat and supplies for
any water rescue work on weekends. 3 new radios were purchased. A map
and legal description of the New Fire District was drawn. In October a
discussion was held as to whether the department should have its own
rescue boat to be used on the river. Two aluminum boats and motors, and
one trailer were considered. Bids from dealers were submitted for
approval. The new radio base station was installed at the fire house.
In November, the 9th annual Turkey Raffle was held.
40 fire calls were recorded for the year, including a dog on the ice
and 2 drownings.
In January, the fire department’s two new boats and motors with trailer
were purchased. The annual February Dance was held. In May, the new
Chief was appointed. Chief Richard Stiller began leading the
department. On November 18th, the 10th annual
Turkey Raffle was held.
33 fire calls were recorded for the year including house fires,
drownings, and a boat collision.
Fox River Grove Fire Protection District was formed this year. Dr.
McKenna and Dr. Finegan showed a film on external cardiac massage. A
demonstration was also given and mouth to mouth respirations were
reviewed. The annual February dance was held. The American Legion Post
challenged the Fire Department to Donkey Baseball game which was held
in July, and won by the firemen. A down payment was made by the
district for property to the south of the lumber yard. All members were
urged to take the First Aid Classes that were being held on Monday
nights at the Legion Hall. On November 11th, the 11th
annual Turkey Raffle was held.
